The codings of the module are predominantly based on the GESIS Demographic Standards 2024. Individual codings were simplified for use in everyday clinical practice; further codings were developed by the working group for the Sociodemographic Data module.
Country information for country of birth and nationality is to be represented using ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2. First language is to be coded using ISO 639.
The coding of the markers (Merkzeichen) on the severe disability certificate (Schwerbehindertenausweis) is based on the relevant provisions of the Severe Disability Certificate Ordinance (Schwerbehindertenausweisverordnung).

For the characteristics educational attainment, vocational training, employment status, and occupational position, collection variants of differing levels of detail are provided. The long versions allow for a more differentiated evaluation, while the minimal versions allow for a lower documentation burden in everyday clinical practice. A minimal-version entry must not automatically be converted into a specific category of the long version if the information required to do so is not available.
